What each transfer status means
| Status | What is happening | What you do |
|---|---|---|
| Pending | We sent your request and EPP code to the registry | Nothing, wait a few minutes |
| Awaiting approval | The current registrar has up to 5 days to release the domain | Approve the email from your old registrar to speed it up |
| Completed | The domain is now at NameBest | Check DNS and auto renew in the Dashboard |
| Failed | The registry or the old registrar rejected the request | Read the reason and fix it, then start again |
Follow your transfer in the dashboard
1. Open Domains
Go to Dashboard, then Domains. A domain on its way in shows the transfer status instead of an expiry date.
2. Check your email
The registrant email address may receive a message from the current registrar asking you to approve or reject the transfer. Approving it usually completes the move within hours instead of days.
3. Confirm the settings when it completes
After the status changes to Completed, open the domain and check the DNS and Nameservers tabs. Auto renew is on by default.
How long a domain transfer takes
- Most transfers complete within 5 days.
- An approval from the old registrar can finish it the same day.
- Some country code extensions follow their own registry process and timing.
- Your website and email keep working during the transfer as long as the nameservers do not change.
My transfer failed. Why?
The common reasons are a wrong EPP code, a transfer lock still on at the old registrar, the 60 day transfer lock, or an expired domain. If the transfer fails, the charge for it is refunded. Read how to get an EPP code and start again.
The transfer has been pending for more than 5 days. What should I do?
Write to [email protected] with the domain name. We check the request at the registry and tell you what is holding it.
Will the expiry date change?
Yes. A completed transfer adds one year to the current expiry date. If the domain was renewed shortly before the transfer, some registries keep that renewal too.
Is DNS moved with the domain?
If your domain uses the old registrar's nameservers, copy your records into the DNS tab first, or set your own nameservers. See change nameservers.
