What starts the 60 day lock
| Event | Lock length | Can you opt out |
|---|---|---|
| New registration | 60 days | No |
| Completed transfer to a new registrar | 60 days | No |
| Change of registrant name, organization or email | 60 days | Yes, before you confirm the change |
The lock after a registrant change is called the change of registrant lock. It applies only to changes of the owner name, organization or email address. Updating a phone number or postal address does not start it.
Check when the lock ends for your domain
1. Open the domain
Go to Dashboard, then Domains, and select the domain.
2. Open the Transfer lock and EPP code tab
If the 60 day lock applies, the tab shows the date when transfers become possible again.
3. Plan the transfer for that date
You can still edit DNS, nameservers, forwarding and privacy during the lock. Only the move to another registrar waits.
Opt out of the lock when you change the registrant
When you change the owner name, organization or email under the Registrant tab, we ask whether you want to allow transfers in the next 60 days. Tick Allow transfer within 60 days before you confirm if you plan to move the domain soon. Both the old and the new registrant receive an email about the change. See update registrant contact details.
Is the 60 day lock the same as the transfer lock switch?
No. The Transfer lock switch is a setting you control and can turn off any time. The 60 day lock is a rule from the registry and ICANN that you cannot switch off. Read domain account security for the switch.
Can support remove the 60 day lock?
No registrar can remove it after a new registration or a transfer. It ends on its own after 60 days.
Does a renewal start a new lock?
No. Renewing a domain does not affect transfers. See domain auto renew.
