Who sets the premium price
Registries decide which names are premium and what they cost. We pass that price through in the search result. We do not mark names premium ourselves and we do not change the registry tier after you buy.
- Registry premium names are sold new, straight from the registry, at a tiered price.
- Some registries charge the premium price every year, others renew premium names at the standard price.
- The Renews at column in the result tells you which case applies to the name you see.
Premium domain renewal prices
The renewal price matters more than the first year price for a name you plan to keep. A premium name that renews at its premium price costs that amount every year. Check the Renews at value in the result and in your cart before you click Pay and register. Your domain auto renew charges exactly that amount each year.
Buy a premium name
1. Search for the name
Use the domain search. A premium name shows the Premium label and the Premium price.
2. Compare both prices
Read First year and Renews at. If the renewal is high, decide now whether the name is worth that amount every year.
3. Add it to your cart and check out
The cart repeats both prices. Registration, privacy, DNS and forwarding work the same way as for any other domain.
Is a premium domain the same as an aftermarket domain?
No. A registry premium name has never been registered and is sold new. An aftermarket name belongs to someone who resells it. Read about premium domain names and buying a taken domain for the difference.
Can the premium price change later?
Registries can change premium tiers over time. A change applies to future renewals and is shown before the renewal charge in your reminder emails.
Can I transfer a premium domain in?
Often yes, but some registries charge the premium renewal rate on transfer. The transfer price appears before you pay on the domain transfer page.
