Domain search results explained

Each row in your search results shows one domain, its status and two prices: what you pay for the first year and what it renews at every year after. The renewal price is there on purpose, so you know the full yearly cost before you add anything to your cart.

What each status means

Status Meaning What you can do
Available Nobody holds the name and it has a standard price Add it to your cart
Taken Someone already registered it Try another extension or read about buying a taken domain
Premium The registry or a seller set a higher price for this name Check both prices, then add it to your cart if it fits
Checking We are still asking the registry Wait a second, the row updates by itself

How to read the prices in a result

  • First year is what you pay today for the first year of registration.
  • Renews at is the yearly price from the second year on, charged when auto renew runs.
  • Minimum term appears when the registry requires more than one year, for example two years for .ai.
  • WHOIS privacy shows Included where the registry allows it. It shows nothing extra for extensions such as .us, where privacy is not allowed.

All prices are in US dollars and come live from our pricing table. The domain prices page shows the same numbers for every extension.

Read a result in four steps

1. Check the status first

Only Available and Premium results can go into your cart. A Taken result links to how to buy a taken domain.

2. Compare the renewal price

A low first year price with a high renewal price costs more over three years than a steady price. Multiply the renewal price by the years you expect to keep the name.

3. Look for extension rules

Some extensions have rules. .app and .dev only work over HTTPS. .us requires a connection to the United States. The list of available domain extensions explains each one.

4. Click Show more extensions

The first rows show popular extensions. Show more extensions loads the rest of the list with the same columns.

Why does a row say Check failed, try again?

The registry did not answer in time. Search again. If it keeps failing for one extension, that registry may be slow for a few minutes.

Why did I see a message about too many searches?

We limit very fast repeated searches to keep results quick for everyone. Wait a moment and search again.

Why is a name Premium when it looked free?

Short, common and dictionary words are often priced higher by the registry. Read premium domain pricing.
