Renew a domain manually

You can renew a domain manually at any time from the Renewal tab in your Dashboard, for one year or several years at once. Manual renewal is useful when auto renew is off, when a card payment failed, or when you want to lock in more years ahead.

Renew a domain step by step

1. Open the domain

Sign in, go to Dashboard, then Domains, and select the domain.

2. Open the Renewal tab

You see the expiry date, the renewal price per year and the Renew now button.

3. Choose the number of years

Pick how many years to add. The total updates as you change it. Registries allow a registration of up to 10 years in total, so the list only offers what fits.

4. Pay

Confirm the card from Payment methods or add a new one, then confirm. The new expiry date appears in the tab within a minute and the invoice appears under Orders and invoices.

When to renew manually

  • Auto renew is off and you decided to keep the domain after all.
  • The automatic payment failed and the expiry date is close.
  • You want several years at today's renewal price.
  • The domain has expired and is still in the grace period.

Renew a domain after it expires

An expired domain stops resolving. During the grace period, typically up to 30 days, you renew it in the Renewal tab at the normal renewal price. After that it enters the redemption period, typically 30 days, where the registry charges a restore fee on top of the renewal. Exact periods per extension are in the renewal policy. Read expired domains for the full timeline.

The Renew now button is missing. Why?

The domain may already be renewed to the maximum term, may be on its way out in a transfer, or may be past the redemption period. Write to [email protected] with the domain name if you are unsure.

Does a manual renewal turn on auto renew?

No. The switch stays where you left it. Turn it on in the same tab if you want future years handled automatically. See domain auto renew.

Can I get money back for extra years?

No. Renewals are paid to the registry and cannot be returned. Read the domain refund policy before adding many years.
